The initial acupuncture session will run as follows:
- After the initial consultation, you will be given a treatment plan.
- Taking a tongue and pulse diagnosis. Areas of pain/discomfort/symtoms will be assessed in terms of affected organ systems and meridians. Other diagnostics may also be used such as electrical resistance meters, blood pressure, iodine patch test or others as indicated.
- The bulk of the session is you lying on the treatment table and relaxing while the needles do their work. Acupuncture is applied to the lower limbs, arms, head and/or ears as needed (usually 4-12 points are used). Sometimes no acupuncture will be used initially as some patients will require microcurrents only to build up their energy before they are ready for acupuncture. The lights may be dimmed and nature sounds played to help you enter a more relaxed state.
- Patient care coordinator will later check in to see how you are doing, if you require any adjustments for your comfort.
- At the end of the session, acupuncture is removed. You may be given recommendations according to your treatment plan to set you up for optimal healing.
- You get to float out of the room and the patient care coordinator will get you set up for your next appointment.
